The Fires Rekindled by Your Last Breaths (Movements I and III)
Myriam Omar Awadi probes the tensions among memory, orality, and transmission. Her exhibition centres on the Debe, a sung dance that Comorian women practised clandestinely until the 1950s. Through a poetic and fictional approach, Omar Awadi intertwines archives, stories, and performative forms to make the forgotten voices of these women resound. In this sensitive space—combining video, sculptural elements, and sound devices—absences and silences take on material form. Each breath rekindles a fire; each voice traces a collective memory.
Exhibition produced in partnership with Centre CLARK.
