Jérôme Havre, Cauleen Smith and Camille Turner

In the video Triangle Trade, Jérôme Havre, Cauleen Smith, and Camille Turner each created avatar puppets and a distinct world to represent themselves. The animated puppets navigate through their own world, which simultaneously isolates and connects them. Moving through their respective surroundings, these intermediary objects—or extensions of the puppeteers—vouch for blackness as a state of becoming, a mode of experience that simultaneously touches on futures and multiple histories. The work was produced in the context of a cross-border conversation between Havre, Smith, and Turner regarding their specific relationships with territory and with a sense of belonging.
