Maggie Groat
In the installation psychic cost > power variations > interior familiar, Maggie Groat creates an ambience, using various formal strategies to position abstract collages in the gallery: the collages and their elements or motifs are spatially translated through reproduction on fabric or the use of paint and carpet; they affect the luminosity of parts of the exhibition and create visual movement. Establishing their own measuring systems, they transform the space and our experience of it. As performative traces of the gesture behind their assemblage, the collages possess a distinctive energy. Although it evokes a familiar environment, the installation subtly shakes up the collective imaginary by generating alternative connections, arrangements, and views.
