Maya Watanabe

Maya Watanabe sheds light on the constitutive gaps within the memorial and historical processes at the basis of all identity construction. As part of the generation that grew up during the Internal Armed Conflict in Peru (1980–2000) the artist investigates the painful history of her native country, which is still shaken by its longstanding political turmoil. She brings her attentive observations to phenomena that oscillate between life and death, presence and absence: moments of suspense such as hibernation or biostasis; moments of upheaval, of trembling matter and metamorphosis.
