Bêtise humaine
With Bêtise humaine, Joyce Joumaa transforms a space at the MAC into a site of memory and confrontation. The video installation juxtaposes footage from the 2001 France–Algeria soccer match with scenes from the film The Battle of Algiers (1966), shedding light on the echoes between colonial history and contemporary tensions and revealing the instrumentalization of sport as a diplomatic and political tool. Featuring a platform and artificial turf, the work evokes a playing field on which resistance and reconciliation are negotiated. Joumaa offers a critical archive of postcolonial struggles that continue to persist.
