The Pond is conceived as a virtual world populated with hybrid beings inspired by real fauna, found in Costa Rica. The video installation sets the scene for a pond: an aqueous universe of pearlescent reflections coming to life in a loop through augmented reality objects. A vast mirage-like swamp, this image-skin serves as a shimmering receptacle for a diorama built entirely from scratch, reminiscent of the meticulously reconstituted ecosystems that typically characterize the staged sets of natural history museums. But instead of the usual taxidermy, the artist has created 3D-animated insects and amphibians imagined as living in a laboratory of gestation.
