Founded in 1980 in Montreal by a group of women, Artexte is a publicly accessible library, information centre and exhibition space whose mandate is to promote the interpretation and dissemination of Quebec and Canada contemporary art from 1965 to the present day.

With a unique collection of over 30,000 published documents covering various aspects of the visual arts, Artexte aims to support research in the field of contemporary art through its significant documentary resources made available to researchers, artists, cultural workers, students and amateurs from the local and national art community. In addition, Artexte supports critical approaches to creation and interpretation of today’s visual arts through a rich programming of innovative exhibitions, activities related to research, to dissemination and publishing (Artexte’s Editions).

Located at 2-22, Artexte is a non-profit organization and member of AMC, Culture Montréal, RCAAQ, REPAIRE and the SMQ.
